Taking On The My 7 Links Challenge

My 7 Links Challenge

I have recently been nominated by my good friend Slappy Bear to be part of the My 7 Links Challenge. In short the challenge is that you share links for 7 posts, that you have published on your own blog. One link for each of the 7 categories. You then nominate 5 other bloggers to join the challenge.
My 7 Links Challenge

 The 7 Categories

  • Your most beautiful post
  • Your most popular post
  • Your most controversial post
  • Your most helpful post
  • A post whose success surprised you
  • A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
  • The post that you are most proud of

My 7 links for the challenge:

My most Beautiful Post – I don’t know how many beautiful posts I wrote, but my Marry Christmas post with a very nice picture of a big Christmas tree got some nice feedback and also a lot of comments I think.

My most popular Post – It must, without doubt, be my Review of Samsung BD-D8500 HDD Recorder. It gets lots of hits every day and I have also received a lot of comments. Review like this is something people will search for on Google and so did I before I bought the device. It has also been one of the posts, that I have received most AdSense click from. This is for sure posts like this, I should try to make more of in 2012.

My most controversial post – I don’t write much post in that category, but for many iPhone and Android fans, a review of a Windows Phone HTC Radar with Windows Phone 7.5 Mango might be a bit controversial. However, I like my HTC Phone and think that Microsoft has made great improvements with the Windows Phone Mango update. I don’t think we have seen the full potential in Windows Phone yet.

My most helpful post  – I think that my most helpful post, is Issues upgrading to WordPress 3.2 with the Arras Theme. Nobody like, when their blogs is getting offline after and upgrade. That was exactly what happened to me. When I got my own issues fixed, I posted this post in order to help other people, with the same issues. Those kinds of posts are often very well received and it also got a lot of comments.

My post whose success surprised me – My post about my blogs 1 year anniversary ( Today it is 1 year since I launched Techwork ), was really well received by my readers. I guess, it was easy for other bloggers to relate to, how tough the first year as a blogger can be and how the small success we get, down the road make us happy as new bloggers.

My post I don’t feel get the attention it deserved  – My post about Free Virtualization with VMware Player 3.1 did not get much attention. I really think that I put a lot of work into it and I even made a YouTube video for that post. Maybe it just was a bad topic, I don’t know, but the product is great, if you want to test other operation systems and only have a single computer.

My post that you are most proud of – How I got from nothing to PageRank 3 in 7 months. It is a post that I am very proud of. It got a lot of comments and was also Retweeted a lot. Again, the post was based on my own experiences and was even requested from some of my readers. That is something to keep in mind for, in the future. Give your readers what they want and base it on own experiences. That is the way to go 🙂

Hi there Thomas, great to see you were up for the challenge, some great posts in your 7 links, some I’ve read, some I haven’t so this will give me a chance to catch up 😉

I hope the other bloggers you have mentioned are also up to the 7 links challenge 😉

    1. Thank you Slappy and thank you for nominating me 😀 I guess I better go and tell them that I have nominated them. They are some great but busy bloggers I think 🙂

    Hey Thomas,

Thanks for nominating me for the 7 links challenge. I really appreciate that and I’m so honored.

I took this challenge last November so I hope you don’t mind me cheating and just sharing that post with you here. I don’t think my readers would want another one from me so soon.

Thanks for the nomination though and it looks like I have a few of yours to read. I think you made some great choices.

Hope you’ve had a fabulous day and thanks again.

    1. Hi Adrienne

No need for doing the same challenge two times. Thank you for sharing your post. I will have to look into i later. See you around.

  3. Thanks for the nomination, is a good idea I don’t even know who I would pick to nominate as the 5 others who may not already have been hit up since many are in same blogging circles.

  4. John Garrett

    Congrats on your nomination, Thomas.

I like these challenges since you get to see some of the blogger’s favorite posts, even if that post doesn’t necessarily have the most comments/tweets, etc.

So thanks to this I will spend some time perusing your chosen posts for myself. Congrats, again!

    1. Hi John
Thank you very much. It is a fun challenge I think. Have you been part of the challenge yourself?

  5. Very interesting idea. I am sharing with my networks and I may give this idea a best of the web shout out in my spring review.

  6. Hi Thomas, this is such a fun challenge isn’t it. It’s nice to see that I passed the torch to Slappy and he passed it on to you. 🙂

I’m glad a lot of your readers surprised you by congratulating you on the one year post. That’s because we all know people who never make it this far and it’s a great accomplishment.

    Congrats on taking the challenge!

    1. Hi Ileane

Thank you for dropping by my little blog. It is fun to see how a thing like this can spread from blogger to blogger. I have already got a couple of comment from some of my nominees that they like the idea of this challenge.
It is great to reach the 1 year mark and I am happy to say that I am still motivated to improve my skills and my blog.

  7. Monica

first of all congrats on the nomination. And your blog is one of the most informative blogs i’ve ever come across you suggestions over the social media and search engine are very helpful . Just wanted to thank you and keep up the good work !

    1. Thank you very much Monica.

The 7 links challenge was certainly a good idea!

Without you taking the time to do this I would have probably never found your article on “how I got from nothing to page rank 3 in 7 months” is quite simply enlightening and has been key to my “pre blog starting research”

Also I think your VMWare article could have gone more in depth, and if it had done it would have been so much more helpful. I remember a few years back seriously struggling to install a linux distro to VMWare and had to get an IT buddy to remote in and do it for me because none of the online guides were helpful at all.

    1. Hi Rory
I like the idea very much too. Too bad I not was the one that got it 😉
Maybe you are right about my VMware post. Thank you for your feedback.

  9. Rory

No problem thanks for the speedy reply! As an IT professional you owe it to us luddites to write a comprehensive VMWare user guide.

I’d wager there’s a bunch of people out there like me who love the idea of VMWare but just can’t wrap their heads around how it functions.

  12. Alex

well, i have heard of this award for a while, glad that you are nominated for it, Thomas. And this is the first time i come to your blog, i should thanks to this award too, for it saves me a lot of time from diciding which post to read first (those who nominated to 7 links challenges are all great bloggers, so it’s really hard to say which post is better, for all of them are the best!). Take care and have a successful year, sure i will come here often.

    1. Hi Alex
Always nice with some new visitors on my blog and I hope to see you back here soon 🙂

  13. Hajra

    Hey,

I did try this long back on my blog and boy, was this tough! I somehow can’t pick my favorite. Popular and all is just easy to find counting the comments and the page views and all but the others were too tough for me.

I have read some of these, will check out the others soon!

    1. Hi Hajra
It was a bit tough for some of the categories and others were pretty easy to choose.

  14. Samantha Bangayan

Wow! =) Thank you SOO much for nominating me, Thomas! =) What an honor!

And I absolutely loved this overview of your blog. There’s so much for you to be proud of, especially those excellent reviews! =) I especially loved that last post you shared. Super informative!

    1. Thank you Samantha
I hope you are up for the challenge if you have not done it already. Enjoy your weekend Samantha.

  15. Chris Davies

Hi, the 7 Links Challenge is a great idea. I have only just joined the Blogging community with my Dog Blog. I would love to have a go next year. Is it nomination only, or can I apply before the competition starts?

    1. Hi Chris

The idea of the concept is that someone should nominate you and you then nominate 7 new bloggers. You can read more here: http://www.tripbase.com/blog/my-7-links-the-rules/

  16. Nice challenge and nice posts you have nominated for yourself.

  17. This is actually a very nice way to exercise your blogging abilities. In the end you can merge what you used for every case to create a great blog!
