Another month has gone and it is time for me to share my most popular posts for October. The posts below are the posts that has been my most popular once in October month. Hopefully those posts will still get a lot of visitors in November, but I will also try to analyze them closer to see if I can figure out what have made them the most popular once. Hopeful I can use this knowledge in my future posts here on TechThatworks to write even better posts about the stuff that you my readers are looking for. If you have not yet read the posts please go ahead and dig in.

Once thing I for sure can see is that reviews and tips about specific devices and gadgets are very popular. So are How-to articles and posts about troubleshooting a specific issue like when I wrote the post about the issues with the Arras WordPress themes that I use on this blog.

Now I would like to hear which post you liked the best and why? You are also very welcome to come with suggestions for new topics you would like me to blog about.

How do you measure top 5 posts? Do you base primarily on traffic or engagement level? I personally would rate a post with 50 comments and 200 visits more popular than one that has 2000 visits all from a Stumbleupon spike with no traffic.
I find that in 3 years of blogging, I am trying to be more focused on engagement vs traffic for each specific article. Being remembered in the reader’s mind and as somebody they connected with is more important than just visits to an article.
Can you do me a HUGE favor, delete the Twitter ID for my last comment. The stupid auto complete used a completely inappropriate item for it.

In this case I have based it on numbers from Google Analytics, but for my top 1 post it is also by far the one that have got the most comments. But I have to agree with you that it is much more important to get people to drop a comment and maybe come back for a reply that to get a lot of traffic from e.g. StumbleUpon that just bounce away again and never come back.
Okay, when I switched my Twitter ID for this comment looks like it fixed the last one. Thank goodness.
In my case the top post on my site tends to be contests by # of comments, but traffic is often a different story and follows trends quite often. I had one post bring 30k visits for a single post in a month, yet only yield about 10 comments.

StumbleUpon can send you alot of traffic from time to time.
Do you base primarily on traffic or engagement level?
In the case of this top 5 it is based on traffic, but in most cases my post with the most traffic are also often the one people are most active on leaving comments and retweet.

Great idea for a post Thomas – nice way to help with interlinking. Two of my all time most visited posts were written by my sister-in-law. I wish she’d write more posts. 🙂 Although I just had a post get some attention that is currently taking the top spot so I still have bragging rights. 😉
