Review of Seagate Backup Plus Portable USB 3.0 Drive

I just bought this little fancy USB 3.0 hard drive from Seagate and thought I would write a little review if you are considering buying a new Portable USB drive yourself.

Seagate Backup Plus Portable

It is a nice little device easy to carry around with you and it weighs only 224 g. Unbelievable that 1 TB data can be stored on such a small light device. If you like me have been around IT for many years you can properly remember how it were back in the days when we was compressing files to fit them down to a bunch of floppy drives 🙂

How to install the device

Well it is as easy as it can be. Connect the USB cable to the device and plug it into an available USB port in your computer or connect it to a USB hub. The white light on the front of the disk will light up and the device driver will automatically install. Well it did in my case on Windows 7. The drive is already formatted in NTFS and Seagate has put on a couple of intro videos to get you started.

Performance

The tests below are made with the hard drive connected to a USB 3.0 port on a Windows 7 desktop PC with a Intel Core i7 CPU 2.80 GHz.

Test 1

I first tested the drive with a set of small files between 1 – 6 MB and got a decent transfer rate between 20-25 MB/sec.

Test 2

I then tested the drive with a set of big files between 700 – 4000 MB and got a nice transfer rate about 65-90 MB/sec.

    Hi Thomas

Does it get more heavy as you add more data! 1TB is amazing, as you say it does not seem long that we all had lots of floppy disks.

    Thanks for the review

    Cheers

    1. Haha John. I don’t think data weighs 🙂
It is amazing that we can carry around 1 TB of data in our back pocket.

  3. Sounds like a good portable back-up usb drive for me.
