Welcome to my review of the Denon AVR-X2000 receiver. I recently replaced my Denon AVR-2310 with a newer model: The Denon AVR-X2000, and want to share my experiences with you.
Denon AVR-X2000
My old Denon receiver was great, but it was starting to make some kind of thin vertical green lines on my TV (noise). They was mostly visible on dark scenes and was starting to be very annoying when watching a good movie.
Unpacking and configuration
There is nothing like unpacking some new electronics right? I just love that part 🙂
The biggest part of unpacking and configuring this baby was definitely to connect all 7 speakers and the Subwoofer. It is a lot of cables to managed, but what is a good movie experience without 7 speakers and a good subwoofer to control the deep sounds of all the action. If you look inside the box, Denon has include small stickers to help you manage all the speaker wires. That is actually a great idea they have got there.
Firmware upgrade
One of the first thing I did when I had connected all my equipment was to go online using the remote and look for firmware upgrades. There was an update so I decided to update. The display said 42 minutes left for the upgrade to continue. I thought that was a long time for a firmware upgrade, but it turned out to be correct. The display informed about the ongoing process all the way and adjusted the time on the way. I decided to do some other things while the upgrade completed.
First time setup using the OnScreen guide
When all the equipment is connected, Denon introduce you to a great onscreen guide that helps to configure all devices and speakers correct. It takes you step by step and makes sure you don’t forget anything. It helps you configuring your speakers using the included microphone (audyssey) that measure the distance between your speakers. It also guide you to configure your HDMI and optical devices to match the input buttons on the remote (e.g. Blue-Ray, CD-Player and PlayStation).
Control Denon AVR-X2000 from your Smartphone
The AVR-X2000 comes with network features including controlling your receiver from your smartphone and that is actually pretty cool. You can sit in another room and mute your device or change the input source. You can also control both zones with this app. Pretty awesome of you ask me. The Denon Remote app is available for Android, iPhones and Windows Phones.

Overall thoughts of the Denon AVR-X2000
I have had the receiver for about 3 weeks now and so far, I have been very pleased with it. There is of cause always something you will have to get used to, when you switch to a new model. There is something with the remote you will have to get used to, but I am already there with my new remote. Another thing I had a bit of trouble with in the beginning was to turn off the receiver. It was only dimming off the display, but it was not going in standby. It first I thought, that was just the way it was, but later I realized that it was because I only turned off zone 1, while zone 2 was still turned on 🙂
My old receiver did not have any network at all, but I must say that I really love that I can control it from both my computer and my smartphone. I don’t even have to be in the same room. As long is I am on the same network I can control it remotely. Watching a good action movie on my 40″ Samsung screen letting my new receiver control everything is also awesome. Both picture and sound are perfect. I can really recommend the Denon AVR-X2000 receiver for every movie lovers.

Boom Boom Boom. .. its loveable. ..dont u think remote should be small??
Well it is smaller then my old one, and it is about the same size as my other remotes, so I think it is okay.
The moment you mentioned 7.1 surround sound sold it to me, wow, just wow, most systems only gowith either 5.1 or even 6.1 but to have 7.1 gives the true cinema experience as most 4K cinemas have it.
Now I just need to get one of these myself 😉 😉
You are gonna love it Karen. Remember to get 2 extra speakers otherwise it won’t be much fun with 7.1 channel 😉
I got my Denon Receiver on sale, because Denon is soon coming with their new models, so it might be a good time to buy it now.
Can’t forget those two extra speakers lol.. I’ve got 5.1 now and love it, but having that extra depth will be great, have to get a cinema room sorted 😉 😉
If you are going for your own cinema, you might need the AVR-X3000 instead Karen 😀
Nice post
I always had a thought that if you cannot afford a home theater why not build it your self !, but was waiting for the right time and good devices. I think the DENON X2000 which you mentioned is awesome.
But as you said that Some more models are soon to be launched I would love to wait for them too and then choose the best one among them.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It helped me a lot.
I have been big Denon fan for the last three years… after giving up on Sony after two-decades, I bought a lower-end Denon receiver for my office and was very happy with the unit. After three other Denon products, I began looking for a replacement for my aging Sony high-end home theater receiver. It was the last of my older equipment and the only component left that wasn’t HDMI compatible.
I think you will find that a lot of great things has happened in the Surround world since you aging Sony receiver. Blu-Ray and DTS-HD sound is just a must for any movie lovers if you ask me. Good luck finding your next home theater receiver. I am sure you will be happy with another Denon product 🙂
Seems an impressive piece of hardware!! very very nice. I love those sub stuff and sound, this thing has anything right to shake your house 🙂
Can’t forget those two extra speakers lol.. I’ve got 5.0 now and love it, but having that extra depth will be great, have to get a cinema room sorted
