Another quarter has gone and it is time for another Google Analytics traffic report for this blog. I am a bit late this time because I have been busy with other thinks lately, but here we go.
(This report is based on Google Analytics data from 1 April – 30 June)
Traffic Types:
- Search Engines: 44.88%
- Direct traffic: 25.68%
- Social traffic: 15.76%
- Referring Sites: 11.65%
- Email and Other traffic: 2.46%
My traffic types for Q2 is almost the same as for Q1. Not much have changed. However, June has shown small improvements in incoming traffic from Google 🙂

- Google: 88.39%
- Bing: 7.06%
- Yahoo: 3.63%
- Ask: 0.53%
- Baidu: 0.20%
Google is as always the top of organic traffic, but I will take all the organic traffic I can get and the 7% from Bing is very welcome too.
Top 5 Referring Sites:
- stumbleupon.com
- techtutorials.net
- microsoftvirtualacademy.com
- social.technet.microsoft.com
- addictedme.com
I have been very active on Microsoft Virtual Academy lately and that has driven a little traffic to my blog. Actually, it was not the main reason for me to spend a lot of time there, but always great to get some extra referring traffic from new sites. Stumbleupon is still by far my number one, when it comes referring sites
Top 10 visitors by Country:
- United States
- Denmark
- India
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Germany
- Canada
- Netherlands
- Pakistan
- France
My visitors by Country is pretty steady. It is dominated by the English speaking countries. New on the list is France.
Key Numbers of Q2 2014
Q2 was a little improvement over Q1 of 2014 when it comes to visits on my blog. The bounce rate is almost the same.
- Number of Visits to my blog: 8001 visits (7757 visits in Q1 report)
- Bounce Rate: 72.87% (72.94% in Q1 report)
Conclusion of my Traffic Report
Overall my traffic is the same as in Q1. However, it looks like my traffic from Google search engines is slowly increasing. It would be nice to get just some of the traffic back that I lost after the big bloody Penguin Update last summer. I have also started building a newslist using MailChimp to try to create some extra traffic and from my regular readers, but it is very difficult to get people to sign up for a newslist these days. Nobody wants to get their mailbox filled up with useless newsletter, neither do I. If I don’t like the news I get, I unsubscribe again immediately
If you like, your are very welcome to sign up for my newslist. You can always unsubscribe again if you don’t like my news mail. I normally send a mail once a month. I don’t like to spam people if I don’t have anything to share.
Hey Thomas,
What you are doing for putting out a report on your traffic is something most bloggers aren’t doing. I have to commend you on this!
I’ve really started to seriously use Google Analytics this year and I can see the benefits of seeing how well my site is performaning and make the necessary changes.
I see that you’re an IT person as well as I am. That’s great to find more of us in the blogosphere!
Thanks for sharing and I hope you’re having a great weekend!
Hi Sherman
Google Analytics is an awesome tool and it is even free to use. It can tell us so much about our blog visitors. Where they come from, what browser they use and a lot of other useful things we can use to make our blog or website better.

Hi Thomas, I also have to commend you for putting out your quarterly report. You helpfully show which Google Analytics stats we should be watching for our own blogs.
I had a feeling my Google traffic was increasing, as yours did. I hadn’t taken a look at it but after I read this I looked and sure enough, my Google traffic increased 15% this quarter. Yippee! How great that yours increased too. Maybe Google has figure out we’re not spammers?
Hi Carolyn
Glad to hear that your Google traffic has increased too. I just checked again and can see that my Google traffic is up about 22% 🙂

Google Analytics is an amazing tool to find out how much traffic is coming to our website or bloges and what kind if traffic is coming and from which country it is an easiest way to monitor our website traffic
Most of bloggers are not caring about Google Analytics but it’s one of the most powerful tool to get all idea about our blog traffic.
Thanks for sharing detailed report of Q2-2014. I will also start some analysis of my traffic reports.
Hi Anna
Sorry for my late reply. Yep, Google Analytics is a very powerful tool 🙂
Google Analytic is the best tools for tracking visitors. Your stats show improvement in both bounce rate and visitors which is definitely healthy sign. :]
Hi Himanshu
It is definitely a good sign and my traffic is going back up at the moment.
This is impressive, thumbs up and nice work here!
Impresive !! Your domain extension is .dk and that means it should get majority of traffic from denmark. But, I see, you get most traffic from US. How does that happen ? I am from india and I also want to launch a blog on a keyword which is popular in US. Any tips ??
Hi
I think that there is two main reason why I get more traffic from the us. First of all Denmark is a small country with only 5 million people. The other reason is that I try to do everything I do international and in English. Except from my domain name obviously 🙂
7% from Bing, that was nic actually..
Did you optimize SEO for Bing too?
I do use Bing Webmaster tools, but that is pretty much all. I guess what works for Google Search engines also work for the other Search engines as well including Bing.
Hi thomas, Bounce Rate 72.87% need improve 🙂
That is for sure something I will need to work on.
Hello,
I see that you are driving ultimate traffic from Search engines and social media.
I lost all my traffic from USA after the recent pigeon update. Is there any way to regain?
Please help 🙁
Truly appreciate your efforts in sharing this ultimate stuff!
Hi Nikhil
I lost a lot of traffic from the states too, but it seems like it is slowly getting back. I am afraid I don’t have any quick fix for you other than keep on working and try to connect with other blogs from the states on Twitter, Facebook and so on.
Hi Thomas,
Interesting to see that a lot of your traffic is coming from Stumbleupon. Would you say that this is mostly visitors from the United States, or do you get hits from Denmark/Nordic countries as well? I have just started exploring Stumbleupon for my own website, but I am not sure whether the traffic is the right “type” of traffic.
Best,
Rene
Hi Rene
I just looked it up. Last month 61% of the traffic I got from Stumbleupon was from United States and only about 5% was from Nordic countries. If you are talking about bounce rate Stubleupon might not be the “right type” of traffic, because many of those visitors are just bouncing away again.
The breakdown between the different types of traffic is helpful, thanks Thomas.
I also like to keep track of the top referring sites as you have done. This is a good way of making sure that we visit these sites often and leave contributing comments.
Many blogs publish monthly income reports, and include a reference to traffic but I haven’t found a lot that focus on the details of traffic like you are.
Thanks.
44 percent from google search engine it is really good sign of your Seo.
Hi Thomas,
It is nice good that your direct traffic is high which indicate that you have good loyal readership.
You are also getting good organic traffic, but I am surprised that your top referral is stumbleupon.
Can you suggest the tricks to bring that much traffic form stumbleupon?
Hi Vishal
I am not sure what I does about Stumbleupen that works that well for me other than sharing a lot of stuff, both my own and other bloggers.
Hi Thomas,
Your organic traffic and direct referrals is pretty decent, indicating the quality of your blog. And I am subscribing to you for that brutal honesty there :).
P.S You just gained one more loyal reader
