Review of OnePlus 9 5G smartphone

OnePlus 9 5G

It was time for a new smartphone and my choice was OnePlus 9 5G, that is going to replace my 3 years old OnePlus 7 phone.

Review of OnePlus 9 5G smartphone

I wanted to updated my phone and I got a got offer for the OnePlus 9 5G smartphone. Yes, I am aware that OnePlus have just released a brand-new version 10 of their smartphone, but I like to be one version behind to get a good discount when a new phone is released, and that is just what happened. I bought my new phone in the color Arctic Sky. Not that it really matters, because I am going to put it in a cover, but I do like this color.

Unboxing new OnePlus 9 5G phone

It is always exciting to unwrap new electronics I just bought. Unboxing my new OnePlus phone was no different. The phone comes in a big red impressive box, in great quality. Below you can see some pictures of the box and the stuff inside:

This red box is, very impressive and the material is really great quality. It is a great start for unboxing new electronic, that it is not delivered in a cheap plastic box.

Inside the box is my new phone and the usually security warnings that every electronic company is forced to include to avoid lawsuit.

Inside the box there also is a new charger (65W), a USB cable and a transparent plastic cover.

As you might have noticed, the charger for this phone is a lot bigger than the old charger for my OnePlus 7. That is because the OnePlus 9 comes with higher battery capacity and because this new charger is a 65-watt charger for even quicker charging of the phone. The red USB cable for the charger is now with USB-C in both end and only 1 meter long. That is a bit too short in my opinion.

Migrating data to your new phone

In order to migrate data from one phone to another, OnePlus have this little app named: Clone Phone (formerly known as OnePlus Switch). This app is very easy to use and it helps you to transfer: contacts, text messages, pictures and video, audio files and apps. Once starting using the guide it will create a hotspot between the two phones in order to copy the data. After I used this guide all my apps were installed and placed in just the same location as on the old phone. I still had to login in to some of the apps and I also needed to set up lock key, fingerprint and Face ID, but this app was still a bit help to get me migrated to my new phone. Your old phone doesn’t need to be a OnePlus phone for this to work. The app does also work with any other Android phone and even with an iPhone. However, it is not able to migrate all data types unless it is a OnePlus.

First impression of the OnePlus 9 5G

After a couple of days with my new phone, I would say that I am overall very pleased with my upgrade to the OnePlus 9 phone. It is fast, the screen is awesome and fingerprint is very fast and reliable. The camera is also fantastic, but I am not using all the advanced feature, I just use it for everyday pictures and video. With a 4500 mAh battery I would have expected to get much more battery life, but it seems to last just about as long as with my old phone. Not, that it was bad at all, I might just have expected it to be a lot better. I guess it has to do with the 120Hz screen and the faster processor.
