In this post I have made a complete timeline of all the smartphones I have owned over the last 20 years.
Timeline of the Smartphone I have owned
Recently I found my old Nokia 3310 and a couple other of my old phones. That gave me the idea of writing this post about all the Smartphones I have owned in my life. Maybe you have had some of the same phones and think it could be fun reading. Let us call it a ride down memory lane of Smartphone evolution. No doubt that there has been a strong development in smartphones over the last 20 years.
1. Nokia 3310
My first ever smartphone/cellphone was not that smart. It didn’t even have a built-in camera. All it could do was to make call, send text messages and of cause playing Snake 🙂 This phone might be one of the most legendary GSM phones from the beginning of the century. Â
Nokia 3310 was first announced in 2000.
2. Nokia 3510i
My next phone was the Nokia 3510i. Nokia was still on top of the game and now I had a phone with a color screen. Still no camera and still not much to do with this phone, just like with the 3310. I do however believe this where the era where polyphonic ringtones was a big thing 🙂Â

3. HTC Radar
The HTC Radar was a big jump in features. Now I had a WVGA touchscreen with 16M-color. It had 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 8 GB of storage. It also was my first phone with both Bluetooth and wi-fi. This phone was running Windows Phone 7 as Microsoft pushed very strongly at the time. Despite this phone was running a Windows operating system it was extremely stable and very easy to use. The big issue with Window phones at the time was its lack of supported apps. Most apps at the time was available for both iPhones and Android, but not many developers were building apps for Windows phone. This was an issue that Microsoft never was able to fix. They were simply just entering the game of Smartphones too late.
HTC radar was first announced in 2011
4. Samsung Galaxy S III
My Samsung Galaxy S III was my first Android phone. Now I was able to install all the apps that my friends was using and the screen and colors was also very impressive at the time. This phone was equipped with 4.8 inches screen, an 8 megapixel camera and an 1.9 megapixel selfie camera. It had 16 GB of storage. Like the Nokia 3310 this phone turned out to be a real classic.Â
Samsung Galaxy S III was first announced in 2012
5. Google Nexus 5
The Google Nexus phone was another Android phone. This time Google was involved in the phone which means that this phone was delivered with a clean Android installation without any bloatware that Samsung and HTC preinstalled on their phones. This phone still had a 8 megapixel camera and then it was my first phone with Qi wireless charging. That was pretty nice at the time.
Google Nexus 5 was first announced in 2013
6. OnePlus 3T
My next phone was from Chinese OnePlus. They were starting to make some very powerful smartphones for a very good price. 5.5 inches screen, a 16 megapixel main camera and also an 16 megapixel selfie. It had 6 GB of RAM, a quad-core CPU and 3400 mAh Li-Ion battery. This phone was a real powerhouse and also my first Smartphone with Dual SIM and 4G support.
OnePlus 3T was first announced in 2016
7. OnePlus 7
This is my current phone in 2020. It has been a great phone. Not that big a jump from the 3T other than the battery last much longer for me. You can read a full review if the OnePlus 7 phone here.
OnePlus 7 was first released in 2019

Comments and Feedback
This was my history of smartphone over the last 20 years. I am not sure if I might have had another phone between the Nokia 3510i and the HTC Radar, but then it has had to be a phone paid by my employee at the time. I remember that I had a Sony Ericson phone at a time and I also know for a fact that I have had an HTC Desire back in 2012. Please drop me a comment below if you have any questions or maybe you have also had one of the phones on the list yourself.
Thomas, thanks for the article. I’ve never heard of some of the phones in your list. The smartphones I’ve owned is not such an impressive list-all iPhones: 4S,6S+, and 11 Pro.
Hi Greg
I have never owned an iPhone myself. I prefer Android phones, but I have been working with iPhones in my job as system administrator.
